Carawine’s Board and management have extensive experience in the exploration, development and financing of mining projects in Australia and overseas.


Paul Whimp

Non-Executive Chairman

Mr Whimp brings extensive national and international accounting, business, banking and finance experience to the Company, and has held active management and director roles within the mining, property, superannuation administration and financial advisory industries.

Mr Whimp has been a director of Harris Black Chartered Accountants since 2002, and is currently a director of Drake Coal Pty Ltd - a joint venture partner with QCoal Pty Ltd in the Drake Coal project. Paul holds numerous qualifications including a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) and a Graduate Diploma of Financial Planning, as well as a Certificate of Public Practice with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, and is a Member of the Taxation Institute of Australia, the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, and is an Accredited advisor with Mindshop Group.

 


David Boyd

David Boyd

Managing Director

Mr Boyd is a highly experienced geologist with over 25 years’ experience in the mining industry.  During his career, he has worked in senior exploration roles with major gold-mining houses including RGC/Goldfields Limited, Placer Dome Asia Pacific, and Barrick Gold Corporation. Over this time he was involved in a number of gold discoveries, including the Raleigh and Homestead Underground gold mines in the Eastern Goldfields of WA.

Most recently David was Sheffield Resources Limited’s Exploration Manager, part of the team responsible for the identification of the Thunderbird Mineral Sands Project. Prior to his role at Sheffield, he was General Manager of Geology with Consolidated Minerals Limited where he was responsible for managing exploration and resource development at its manganese and chromite operations in Western Australia.

 


Sam Smart

Sam Smart

Non-Executive Director

Mr Smart has over 20 years’ experience as a corporate and commercial lawyer. During this time, he has advised companies on a wide range of corporate law and governance issues, with a strong focus on the mining sector. Mr Smart has previously held both director and company secretary positions with ASX-listed companies.

Mr Smart is familiar with Carawine’s operations, having served as Company Secretary of Carawine from January 2021 until June 2022.


Martin Lackner

Martin Lackner

Non-Executive Director and Company Secretary

Mr Lackner has extensive financial leadership experience within the mining and resources industry. Over the last 16 years, he has served in senior finance roles within listed companies both in Australia and the UK, bringing a broad portfolio of corporate finance and project development expertise to these positions.

Mr Lackner currently holds a senior finance and commercial role within the QCoal and QGold Group of companies and has previously served in the role of Company Secretary for an ASX-listed mining group. He is a member of the Certified Practising Accountants in Australia and holds an MBA from Deakin University in Melbourne with a Bachelor’s degree in Business majoring in Accounting.

 


Michael Cawood

Exploration Manager

Mr Cawood is a geologist with over 25 years experience in the mining industry working for a number of Australian and international resources companies, including RGC Ltd, Western Metals, Gindalbie Gold and Teck. He has explored for gold, copper and base metal deposits across a variety of geological settings and was heavily involved in Teck’s successful Carapateena IOCG campaign. Most recently Mr Cawood managed Project Generation and Evaluation for Teck throughout the Asia-Pacific.
